Even if you get a copyedit, you don’t want to skip the final proofreading. (To learn more about why I recommend both a copyedit and proofreading, check out my Tips for Writers article about it here.)

Rachel Santino of Armadillo Editing (formerly Armadillo Proofreading) is my colleague and personal friend who offers copyediting and proofreading services. Rachel specializes in westerns, is extremely thorough, and handles every project with care. After undergoing a deeper edit with me on the plot and/or rhythm of the narrative, be sure to contact Rachel for a fresh set of eyes.

Kirkus Reviews

Kirkus is a credible resource for authors, consisting of a team of editors, librarians, journalists, and many other creative professionals who read and review your book. During this process, they will take all the elements of your book into consideration and write up a professional and honest review of your work. You can choose afterward whether you want it to be public or not, but remember, even bad reviews can help garner publicity for your work and/or offer valuable feedback to help you improve in your writing craft. They offer various packages to suit your needs.

Clarion Reviews

Clarion is another professional book review service which will give you an honest review of your book. Similar to Kirkus, you can use it as a positive marketing tool on your author website, book cover, or wherever you sell your book. Also similar to Kirkus, you must give your permission for the review to become public and you can make this decision after receiving it.

Pubby

Pubby

“Pubby provides authors with visibility and credibility on the
largest online bookstore through verified reviews.” After creating an account, you provide an .epub or .pdf of your book for people to review, similar to the ARC reader process, only you don’t have to go hunting for them and hound them for reviews! Pubby offers a free 10-day trial prior to committing, and then the subscription is $30 per month, or you can pay annually which drops the fee to $20 per month.

AuthorsUnite

Between publishing and marketing services, Tyler Wagner’s AuthorsUnite has helped over 4,000 authors. His team offers lead generations for book industry experts and businesses, helps get your book featured in practically any medium, assists in going on a podcast tour, and gets your book placed on major bestseller lists. Through strong marketing efforts, this team uses a mixture of different exposure tactics to get your book in front of a large audience. Their success is their proof and their guarantee is backed by a full refund if your book does not become a best seller.
