Romance

I enjoy a good romance book with witty and comical humor, sweet romance, and a happily ever after. Who wouldn’t want to imagine themselves in a world where, even when things go wrong, everything ends up perfectly in the end?

Sci-Fi / Fantasy

I also love books with fantastical elements that keep you guessing. In this genre, the author has full creative authority, and when literally anything could happen, there’s excitement on every page.

Mystery

Trying to figure out whodunnit makes me feel like a self-declared detective. I find it thrilling to search for every little clue lurking in the background (similar to what I do as a developmental editor!).

Don’t See Your Genre?

Reach out anyway! I keep a pretty open mind when a new client reaches out with a genre outside of my specialties. If I truly feel I wouldn’t be a good fit for your manuscript, I will let you know. I want you to get the best for your book, even if that means I’m not the right editor for you.

However, I enjoy learning about new topics and expanding my knowledge. I have worked on several other genres with great success, including children’s books, investing & financial, parenting books, nutrition & wellness, Christian self-help, thriller & suspense, and more.

Developmental Editing

Rates starting at $0.045 per word

Developmental editing looks at the big picture of your manuscript, and is often recommended for new authors to help refine their writing craft. Through this process, you will learn how to develop and improve your manuscript, and increase your skill and understanding of the craft of writing. This round of editing ensures that the story makes sense and the author addresses larger issues such as overall structure, timeline and order of content, hooks and prompts of each chapter, archetypes and character development, point of view, plot and tropes, time and location setting, proper pacing, consistency, transitions, dialogue, and adding/deleting/rearranging of scenes (as pertains to your manuscript).

DELIVERABLE: I will perform two passes on your manuscript before returning it to you. You will receive an editorial letter with detailed notes and suggestions for how to improve your overall writing craft and this particular manuscript. There will also be some comments directly on the manuscript where necessary. (Please note that this round of editing does not address grammar, spelling, or punctuation issues as it is focused on the big picture and involves author rewrites when completed.)

Line / Copyediting

Rates starting at $0.075 per word

This is a line-by-line process, combining both line editing and copyediting into a package deal, saving you both time and money.

Line editing focuses on the rhythm and language of your manuscript, and works on voice and word choice, style and phrasing, dialogue and overused dialogue tags, similar sentence structure, filler words, repetition, and consistency with actions.

Copyediting checks for typos, double words, grammatical errors, punctuation, spelling, formatting issues, echo words, completes fact-checking, ensures an accurate timeline, and checks that chapter and page numbers are correct. (This is only the first attack on such issues and I highly recommend following up with a fresh set of eyes for a final proofreading.)

DELIVERABLE: I will perform two passes on your manuscript before returning it to you. You will receive edits and comments directly on the manuscript.
