Rebranding Red Quill

June 20, 2024

To all my lovely clients, both past and present,

You may have noticed that Red Quill Co LLC has recently undergone a few changes, the biggest one being the name change to Red Quill Editorial LLC (did you notice the new logo?).

I want to assure you that outside of clarifying what the business is all about and enhancements to the Red Quill branding, nothing is changing! The website and my email will remain the same, so you will not have to change my information in your contacts or memorize anything new. The color scheme and the beautiful custom-drawn quill on my logo will also stick around, although the logo itself received a facelift. Most importantly, you will still get the same high-quality professional editing services as always and I will continue to be your go-to editor for all of your manuscripts and creative works!

As businesses grow, they learn more about who they are and what they represent. Here at Red Quill, I knew from the start I wanted to offer the highest quality editing services and ensure customer service really was a priority with quick and clear communication (something that is increasingly rare these days).

Upon launching in 2020, I offered proofreading services as well as Developmental Editing and copy/line editing (switched to Line/Copyediting to reflect the proper order of the editing rounds). I later dropped the proofreading service to focus on the rounds I enjoyed and thrived in most. I also decided to Specialize in romance, sci-fi/fantasy, and mystery, although I still accept most genres—I’ve discovered that I enjoy trying new things and expanding my skills and knowledge in the process.

I’ve done countless revisions to my website, perfecting the details and branding—customizing font style and color, adding new Tips for Writers articles and Blog posts, launching a monthly Newsletter, updating my Contact Form, and most recently, adding a FAQs section.

While I’ve enjoyed learning more about branding, marketing, and accounting, another wonderful side effect of running my own business is how much I’ve connected on a personal level with my clients. I am honored to call many of you my friends and pen pals, and I truly enjoy hearing from you, even when you don’t have a current project that requires my red quill. (Please say hello whenever you get a chance!)

Throughout these last four and a half years at Red Quill, the biggest takeaway with honing my skills as a high-quality professional editor was that I want this detail to be evident from the moment someone sees my business name and logo. That was what I tried to attain in rebranding from Red Quill Co LLC to Red Quill Editorial LLC. Hopefully you will agree that I have achieved this when you take a look at the transformation process of the Red Quill logo:

2020

My original logo was very basic and simple, just another item on my lengthy to-do list to launch my editorial business. The rectangular shape created a problem with certain swag and website designs. I also discovered that the font I chose was difficult to read unless in all caps.

2021

About a year into my business, I updated my logo with a parchment background and a custom-drawn quill done up by my tattoo artist and friend. I also used this opportunity to reshape the logo into a more functional square shape, though I kept the original font.

2024

With the recent name change, I decided to update the font to something more fitting for a quill to have written. I also added an “Established 2020” wax seal to show Red Quill’s longevity and intention to stick around for decades to come!

Thank you for your loyal business and for being a big reason why I love what I do! Don’t forget to reach out when you have another thrilling book for me to edit. In the meantime, happy writing!

Your editor,
