Proofreading Services

Although, I have decided to shelf my own proofreading services in favor of focusing on developmental and copy/line editing, I still believe in its important role in the publishing journey. Trust me, even if you get a copyedit, you don’t want to skip the final proofreading. (To learn more about why I recommend both a copyedit and proofreading, check out my Tips for Writers article about it here.)

Proofreading is the final step prior to publication. This round of editing does not include any suggestions for improvement of the story. Instead, it focuses on checking for any lingering typos, double words, grammatical errors, punctuation, spelling, and formatting issues. If you have been working with an editor on the previous rounds of edits, it is best to get a fresh set of eyes for this step. Below is a list of my most-trusted colleagues who I work closely with for this purpose and am happy to recommend to you.

Armadillo Editing

Rachel Santino of Armadillo Editing (formerly Armadillo Proofreading) is my colleague and personal friend who offers copyediting and proofreading services. Rachel specializes in westerns, is extremely thorough, and handles every project with care. After undergoing a deeper edit with me on the plot and/or rhythm of the narrative, be sure to contact Rachel for a fresh set of eyes.

Nikki works with nearly every genre, so once you’ve undergone a deeper edit with me on the plot and/or rhythm of the narrative, be sure to contact Nikki for a fresh set of eyes on the final project.

Blue Jay Editing Services

I met Katie Yee of Blue Jay Editing Services while sharpening our skills in an editing class together years ago. She proofreads for a traditional publisher, a hybrid publisher, and self-publishing authors. She will respect the work we’ve already done in editing your manuscript and focus on finding the little errors that are bound to slip through. She can proofread before and/or after formatting.
