Reedsy Book Editor

An Honest Review

Are you planning to publish an ebook and printed copies? Is your budget tight and you can’t afford a fancy software or program to write in? Don’t have the time to format a completed manuscript using a complicated program? Reedsy’s Book Editor does it all and then some!

The Reedsy Book Editor

The Reedsy Book Editor is free, simple to use, stores your work securely in the cloud, does not require a download or installation of any software, and allows you to see how your book will look once published (even while still writing). To top it all off, they have unlimited imports, the program is fast, and you can even import a book cover.

The Reedsy Book Editor EPUB files are compatible with a variety of ebook services, including Kindle and Apple. The PDF files are compatible with most print-on-demand (POD) services as well, such as KDP Print. If you are planning to produce printed copies of your book, simply choose from four size options that Reedsy offers, and let the program do the work!

If you want the nitty gritty, step-by-step breakdown of how to get started with the Reedsy Book Editor, read the Reedsy blog post on it here. For a quick and simple startup, continue reading here.

Get Started in Ten Minutes or Less

From the blog link above, click on the blue button in the upper right corner that says, “Join us.” Then enter your email and click “Join now for free.” Proceed to create your “Author account” (you can also create a “Professional account” under the same login if you offer services, such as editing or cover design—don’t forget to Contact Me for editing!).

Once you have created your account, use the left sidebar menu and select “My Books.” From there, you simply use the “Create a new book” section to type in your book title, and either import if you have already started writing, or create if you are just now beginning.

Once you’re in the program with a specific book title, you can do pretty much anything. Under “Front Matter,” you can create a copyright, dedication, epigraph, table of contents, foreward, preface, and acknowledgment. Under “Back Matter,” you can add a blurb, about the author section, and a page listing other written works you’ve published.

At the very bottom of this menu, you will see a running word count of your manuscript, and at the top you can easily add a new chapter or part. There’s also a menu on the right side of your screen that includes tools such as Goals and Insights (which displays the word count for the current chapter you a working in, along with other stats), among other things.

In the meat of the menu, under “Body,” you can choose to add a conclusion, epilogue, or afterword. This is also where you will manage your chapters. You can easily move the chapters around or refer back to one without endlessly scrolling in a Word doc.
